DIY jewel-toe glitter pumps

Last summer the blogosphere went into a bit of a frenzy after first setting eyes on Miu Miu’s studded-toe pumps.

They’re prime DIY inspiration, especially as they cost around $500 a pair. I’ve seen several DIY tutorials around the web over the last year or so, some more successful than others.
Yesterday’s outfit post featured my version, and I was over the moon with the result. My sparkly pumps are a little less ‘bling’ than some others, but so am I – you have to adapt fashion to suit your style and taste.
When a friend told me shoe-jewelling birthday parties are all the rage among teenage girls I did question whether I was too old to be making and wearing such things. But then I looked down at my feet, glinting in the sunlight, and I couldn’t help but smile. You should always wear clothes and shoes that lift your mood and these have become my absolute favourite footwear to do that.
Here comes the step-by-step.
What you need:
- White pumps {or another colour of your choice}
- Stick-on gems, jewels or studs – whatever is your taste. Mine were from The Works
- Silver glitter glue
- ‘Jewel-it’ embellishing glue
- Tweezers
1. Take your rather sad pair of plain pumps, sneakers, trainers or whatever you happen to call them. Mine were from here.
2. Apply glitter glue to the rubber trim going around the bottom of your shoe, and to the toe cap. Just smudge and even it out with your finger.
4. Now apply your jewels using ‘Jewel-It’ glue and tweezers. You probably want to work out your pattern before you start gluing, to make sure the end design is one you’re happy with and that the two shoes are symmetrical.
5. Let the glue dry for 24 hours then fully embrace your inner child and wear!
