2013 spring and summer fashion trends
By Anna | January 14, 2013
Last week I shared Phoebe’s take on the trends that will be big in weddings in 2013.
There’s a lot of common ground between wedding styling and fashion.
So what are the big trends we’re likely to be wearing this year?
I’ve taken a look back at the styles seen at the SS13 fashion weeks – both on the street and the catwalk.
Today I’m picking out some of the key trends and those we’re beginning to see hitting the high street. In coming weeks I’ll also be blogging the trends I’ll be avoiding, and the ones I might try to DIY.
What will we be wearing in 2013?
• Stripes
Thick, bold and preferably monochrome.

• Prints
Especially floral and geometric, in bold and clashing colours.

• Feminine and floaty
A modern take on 1920s styles, sheer fabrics, ruffles and pastel colours create this delicate and elegant look.

• Metallics
Remember this was a big trend in weddings too? But in fashion, as well as the obvious - gold, silver and bronze – any colour is updated with a metallic or iridescent twist.

• 1960s
Louis Vuitton led the way. More geometric and graphic prints, checks, plenty of white and splashes of yellow.

• Tribal
Bright colours, patterns, headscarves and big jewellery.

• Masculine tailoring
By far the most covetable example was Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent suits. But in general, as I’m hardly ever out of them, I welcome the trousers-everywhere-trend. Mostly straight and slightly cropped. Better get perfecting those ankles.

• Sporty
We’re just not ready to give up the glory of the London Olympics just yet. Appropriately enough, Stella McCartney – who designed the triumphant team GB’s kit – stamped her authority all over this subject. If nothing else, you’re likely to wear trainers with everything.

What do you think? Are there any of these trends you can’t wait to try out?
